design challenges
Creating a real estate brand that is impactful and distinctive while staying true to their values of Openness, Transparency and Reliability.
The Client
Founded by two senior realtors based out of Sacramento California, Scenic Estates was a full service real estate firm taking a more personalised approach to the business.
Having worked some of the major corporate players, they had become dissatisfied with the rigidness in the way these firms handled clients. They wanted to take a more flexible approach where they could prioritise the client’s needs ahead of corporate policy.
The Brief
Create a strong Visual Identity & Website to clearly communicate Scenic’s core values.
The new identity needed to be impactful and distinctive to help them stand out in a somewhat crowded marketplace.

the INSPIRATION
RECOGNISABle & RELEVANT
We took our inspiration from the roof line of houses which were immediately recognisable, combining these with a bold impactful sans serif typeface to fill in the body of the house below to complete the shape.
Building on this core idea, we developed three concepts - a 3d layered view of an open doorway, an offset angled shape and a simple silhouette of a roofline with a thatched pattern filling in the details.
Our research
Analysing The Competition And Scenic’s Ideal Market Position Within This Landscape.
We began by looking into current national & regional real estate brands in the North American marketplace.
With large National players, we noticed an overwhelming industry wide trend towards Alphabetical names with Typographical based logo marks.
On the other hand, Regional brands tended to go for custom Wordmark logos that were quite often almost amateurish and woefully out of date.
shortlist
& final selection
Concept’s one and two were shortlisted. Now, we worked on providing colour options for both concepts until the first open doorway concept was selected.
“Distill complex concepts into succinct statements without losing any of the nuance.
And while you’re at it, ensure the visuals are alluring enough to pull in target audiences.”
A COMPREHENSIVE
DIGITAL SOLUTION
In addition to introducing potential clients to Scenic, the website needed to be highly functional and easy to use. We worked with IDX Broker to populate listings in real time enabling users to search available properties with ease.
Due to the nature of the website, we dialled back the animations & focused on streamlining the user flow from the homepage to inner property listings.
We also prioritised several strategically placed call-to-action items throughout each page to maximise conversions for the client.
Project Outcome
After finalising concept one, we developed a comprehensive brand guideline and stationery designs for their business cards, envelopes, letterheads, etc.
The website was also successfully launched with a fully integrated database as per the IDX Broker requirements so that it would receive live property listing updates by neighborhood, price range and property type enabling the client to assist his home buyers more efficiently.
