design challenges
“The client wanted to create the look & feel of a design boutique online. A website that accentuated the design of his products without overshadowing them.”
The Client
Near the end of 2020, we were approached by a young furniture designer wanting to launch an online boutique for his line of design furniture.
Having studied and apprenticed with leading design houses in Italy, he wanted to bring high-end metal furniture to Indian customers.
Project Brief
The client wanted to create the look & feel of a design boutique online. A website that accentuated the design of his products without overshadowing them.
He also needed a full featured Content Management System (CMS) to enable his team to update their product range, manage incoming orders & respond to inquiries on a day-to-day basis.

THE DESIGN challengE:
A CHANGE IN PERSPECTIVE
In India, metal furniture is typically seen as cheap and uncomfortable and is normally used for large social outdoor gatherings. By contrast, Nama’s products not only looked visually distinctive & exclusive, but were also incredibly hard wearing and actually comfortable to use on a day-to-day basis.
We needed to find a creative way to visually convey the fact that they could be used as signature pieces as well as on a day-to-day basis both, indoors and outdoors. And we needed to do this without our design overshadowing the products themselves. Easier said than done.
INSPIRATION Solution
ARCHWAY + METALLIC ACCENTS
We took inspiration from the brand logo-mark and the products themselves. The arch in the upper case A of the NAMA logo was in the perfect shape of an arch, a common feature in ancient Indian architecture symbolising an open gateway welcoming new visitors.
We created our design layout around this theme adding CSS animation for interactive
elements like the navigation and pop ups to the page transitions with this theme.
Simultaneously, we also worked with the client to nail down the typography and colour palette using a combination of matte grey with silver and gold gradient accents to create a metallic texture reinforcing the ‘Minimal Metal’ theme for the site.
competitor analysis
There were plenty of inspiring design houses with well done websites ranging from the funtional to the extravagant.
The competition in the domestic market was relatively sparse. Most of the domestic websites were relatively basic leaning towards a template based standard design or starter websites created on free platforms.
Global competition was another matter entirely. There were plenty of inspiring design houses with well done websites ranging from functional to extravagant. Doing a thorough analysis provided some much needed clarity on how to position Nama Home while staying true to its unique personality and aesthetic.
CMS
WordPRESS + WooCommerce
Now that we had our design layout hammered down, we turned our attention to the back-end CMS.
We had already decided to use the WordPress CMS with the WooCommerce plugin as it was tried and tested and came with a host of useful features as well as a lot of scope for additional customisation.
We began by slowly customising the platform to suit our needs adding a bunch of relevant features from product mgt to automated invoice generation sent through system generated emails from the client’s hosting server.
Project Outcome
Nama Home was listed on several award websites and grew to 5K+ unique visitors per month within the first few months of launching the site.
Nama Home was listed on several award websites and grew to 5K+ unique visitors per month within the first few months of launching the site.
The client had already signed up for a social marketing campaign which helped to maintain and build a following across multiple platforms such as Instagram & Facebook all linking back to the Nama website.
